5 mm × 132 m PET Electrical Insulation Tape with Flat and Dense Winding
Industry: Transformer Manufacturing
Application: High-Frequency Transformer Insulation
Product: Yellow Mylar Electrical Insulation Tape
Specification: 5 mm × 132 m
Color: Yellow
Application Method: Automatic Winding Machine
A transformer manufacturer required yellow Mylar electrical insulation tape for the automatic winding process of high-frequency transformers.
Because the tape was used on an automatic winding machine, the customer had specific requirements for the flatness and winding density of the finished tape rolls.
The tape needed to remain flat when placed on a horizontal surface and maintain a dense, uniform winding structure without visible gaps between the tape layers.
LY supplied customized 5 mm × 132 m yellow Mylar tape according to the customer’s application requirements.
The customer had two key requirements for the finished tape rolls.
After the tape was slit and rewound into finished rolls, the roll needed to maintain a flat and stable shape.
When placed on a horizontal surface, the finished roll should fit closely against the surface without obvious deformation, lifting or warping.
This was important because the tape roll needed to maintain a stable shape during automatic machine operation.
The customer also required a high and consistent winding density.
There could be no obvious gaps between the tape layers, as loose winding could affect the tape’s performance during automatic application.
The finished roll needed to have a compact and uniform winding structure from the inner layer to the outer layer.
The customer’s automatic winding machine included a fan that directed airflow toward the tape during the production process.
If there were gaps between the tape layers, the airflow could cause these gaps to become larger.
As the gaps expanded, part of the tape could lift or protrude from the roll surface.
This created a potential problem during automatic application:
Gap between tape layers → Airflow enlarges the gap → Tape layer protrudes → Tape becomes caught between two machine rollers
Once the protruding tape became caught between the two rollers, it could interfere with the automatic winding process and affect machine operation.
Therefore, the customer required not only suitable adhesive and insulation performance, but also high winding density and excellent roll flatness.
Based on the customer’s automatic machine application, LY focused on optimizing the rewinding and slitting process to achieve the required finished-roll quality.
The key control points included:
The rewinding process was controlled to help maintain a flat and stable finished roll.
The finished rolls were checked on a horizontal surface to verify that the roll maintained good contact with the surface without obvious deformation or warping.
The rewinding process was controlled to maintain a dense and uniform winding structure.
Particular attention was given to preventing loose winding and visible gaps between tape layers.
A compact winding structure helps reduce the possibility of airflow entering between the tape layers during automatic machine operation.
The tape was precision slit to the customer’s required 5 mm width.
The slitting process was controlled to maintain consistent tape width and clean edges, helping ensure stable performance during automatic winding.

For this application, conventional tape inspection alone was not sufficient.
In addition to standard product inspections, LY paid particular attention to the finished-roll condition.
The finished tape roll was placed on a horizontal surface to check whether it maintained good contact with the surface.
The roll was inspected for:
· Deformation
· Warping
· Lifting
· Uneven contact with the horizontal surface
The finished roll was visually inspected to ensure that the tape layers were tightly and uniformly wound.
Particular attention was given to:
· Loose winding
· Visible gaps between layers
· Uneven winding
· Localized protrusion of tape layers
Other key inspection items included:
· Thickness
· Width
· Adhesion / peel strength
· Electrical insulation performance
· Appearance
· Slitting edge quality
· Roll winding quality
The 5 mm × 132 m yellow Mylar electrical insulation tape was supplied for use on an automatic winding machine in high-frequency transformer manufacturing.
The finished rolls were produced with a flat and dense winding structure according to the customer’s requirements.
The controlled winding density helped minimize gaps between tape layers and reduce the risk of tape layers being lifted by airflow during automatic machine operation.
The customized roll specification and controlled rewinding process provided a suitable solution for the customer’s automatic winding application.
